the we ponder house

Nestled on the fringes of Hobart in the foothills of Sorell, this modest property embraces it’s enchanting location by soaking up the surrounding farm land and endless rolling hills. The initial concept revolved around a simple rectangular floor plan to help keep costs down, enabling the inclusion of a sunken lounge and floor-to-ceiling windows throughout. The goal was to transform the unassuming floor plan with average ceiling heights, into a spacious, functional home that gobbled up the incredible views found through every window in the home.

Fortunate to benefit from its location, the majority of windows were strategically placed on the northern side of the home, capturing an abundance of natural sunlight that infuses the polished concrete floors, creating a comforting warmth throughout the home all year round.

Another beautiful and essential element to the design was the addition of a full wall of floor-to-ceiling sheers. When drawn closed at night, it feels as if the whole home is gently tucked into bed. With the fireplace flickering and ambient lighting on, you can’t help but feel like you are receiving a huge warm hug from the home.

Drawing inspiration from the mid-century modern design era, take a look for yourself as to how we injected personality, brought natural colours and materials to life and created a modest yet inviting home for a growing family.
